Stewardship of the Environment

Improving the natural environment is our first priority. The Estate went into Entry Level Stewardship in 2005 and into Higher Level Stewardship across the whole Estate in 2010. A major restoration of riverbanks on the Kennet, water meadows and a Site of Special Scientific Interest is now complete. More than three and a half miles of new fencing has been renewed and more than six miles of new and infill hedges have been planted since 2007. Most of the hedge planting we have undertaken replaces those that existed by the beginning of the 19th century.
